CFC has developed a process for setting up a computer to run in either English or Spanish on the same computer. The process can be used to allow computers to be used with other languages as well.
In order to close the digital divide we need to be able to provide low-cost computers that will be of use to non-English speaking households as well. In California we have a very large population of Latinos who can benefit from having Internet access for health care information as well as learning English.
Schools do not have to buy new computers but can use our process to enable the Spanish language on existing equipment which would be very helpful in Spanish immersion classes.
Please give us some feedback as I am sure the process can be refined. We copy the downloaded files to a CD-Rom or to a flash drive to speed the installation process. I am not including the files on this web site as I am sure you will want to visit the OpenOffice Spanish website to look for updated programs.
Good Luck and please give us some feedback about your success or with suggestions for improvement.
